Escaping poverty | Harriet Omoefe

Lack of basic necessities and a lack of certain desirable traits come to mind when the word poverty is mentioned. The lack of money in general has become the widely accepted definition of poverty, but it is important to remember that even wealthy people can be considered poor. There are certain things money cannot buy. To be perfectly honest, money cannot buy either life or good health; it can only maintain or repair them.

But poverty is a relative concept. Mr. B could have what makes Mr. A poor and Mr. A might have a lot of what makes Mr. B poor. Mr. A may be wealthy but not in good health. Although Mr. B may be in good health, he is poor. In some qualities, each can be said to be relatively inferior to the other.

Now to the intrinsic meaning of poverty, the lack of money.

Poverty is a natural phenomenon that cannot be cured. Even if everyone strives towards attaining a certain level of class or social status, some people are always going to be at the bottom, poor and subject to poverty.

Nobody chooses to be poor. Even if you come from a low-income family, you will still work hard to achieve the necessities of life because you want to be able to afford them. Those who lack focus and are at ease in their current situation are considered to be poor.

The majority of the time, poverty is just a phase that one is going through at the time. It is not a permanent state. With the exception of those who were born rich or successful, almost everyone who is wealthy or successful today overcame obstacles to get where they are.

Poverty is a mindset, an illusion that you cannot be better than where you are at the moment. The mentality that success and riches can be attained is what is needed and necessary to break the poverty yoke.

Many people have tried the flimsy shortcut to success in an effort to break the cycle of poverty, but often these strategies have deadly and long-lasting consequences. Leaving them in regrettable circumstances is the norm.

The best course of action is to persevere through the journey and work hard. This path itself is challenging, demanding, and tiresome. Few would ultimately succeed. Some people might be caught between the poverty line and the verge of wealth.

The so-called "middle class" is a relatively comfortable socioeconomic bracket that falls between the rich and the poor. At this stage you are just at comfort, managing through debts, savings, and spending. Although there is no accumulated wealth, the most basic needs are surely being met.

To break the cycle of poverty, one has to be deliberate, focused, and be prepared to give their all. Their mindset thought process, and lack of determination to keep going is frequently the obstacles in the way of their progress. Persistence and determination are required, no matter how difficult the journey may be.
