Dalai Lama said “open your arms for change, but don’t forget your values.”
When we talk about modernization then the question arises what does it actually the modernization means. Then the answer we get is modernization referred to a progressive transition from a traditional to a modern society and what are values? The answer is values are a characteristic that is inherited from generation to generation and differentiates as a social animal.
Values showcase as how civilized and progressive we are. At a very rapid pace, India is gaining modernization, and over the decade our technological advancements have been faster than the speed of light. Even in remote areas of India, people now have smartphones.
The graph of modernization is increasing day by day but what about the graph of values? We
have become so insensitive that when a man was lying injured on the road people surrounding
were busy in taking picture and posting it to others rather than using the same phone to save life,
even the police doesn’t take any action when a girl is rapped and get burned by saying that the
incident is not happened in their area so we will not take the case in hand. Even the fake
messages been circulated to make the girl humilate even the spectators remain mute. Then why
we call ourselves that we are modernised.
No doubt modernization has made the life of man easy, but it has also made him more
competitive, self-oriented, aggressive and insensitive towards society. Then why do we say “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” the world is my family.
Are we carrying the values parallel to modernisation? Of course not, we are ready to accept the friend request from a person whom we don’t know and chat with them for hours but we refuse to be friends with our own neighbors and fellow beings.
No matter modernisation has brought the world in our hands but we should not allow to be
pulled our values from our feet. So let the modernisation and values should go hand in hand and respect the feelings of other fellow beings. When we follow this, then and only then we are truly modernise.
So at last make the quote true open your arms for change, but don’t forget your values.
