We are all unique beings, with different skills, looks, histories and backgrounds (even if they are twins! I know this because I'm a twin). Therefore our journeys in life will be unique and different. Our individual and different histories make up part of who we are in the present, but they do not determine who we will become. Our paths are not set in stone by our pasts.
With some exceptions, where we end up in the future is mainly decided by what we do in our present-day actions. This is part of my personal philosophy which is based on my life experiences.
You see, when i was much younger, if you told me I would play at youth level for a professional football team, become an actor (https://www.imdb.com/name/nm3724902), a model, an author (www.mindmasters.world), a business executive in the Film/TV, Telecoms and Gaming industries (www.linkedin.com/in/fieldmanr/), travel to various countries, meet with and make friends with so many amazing people, as well as attended some amazing events for free, I would have said you're a liar.
I never would have believed it because of my past of coming from a council estate area, being raised (with my siblings) by a single mum and seeing certain images and propaganda from the media about people like me and my background.
Fundamentally that changed at a few key points in my life. One was when I was around seven years old and went to a Saturday school. I learned a lot about African history and in turn global history. Understanding more about my ancestors' past built a foundation of belief for me.
Another was setting a big goal at 16 and hitting it at 20 before my target date of 21, then doing a bigger goal again from 25). One more was being bold and going to an audition (as a dare from a friend, who decided not to go) in my mid-twenties, which led to me acting, modeling, meeting my wife, and getting into the business side of the Film/TV industry by my early 30s.
It has taken time, I've definitely faced many obstacles, had support to overcome them and changed course during my life, but these key moments from my past have formed some of the psychological pillars (including belief, goal setting and being bold) I continually use to try different things and have amazing experiences that I dream of and try to manifest.
Some of these experiences have included working with and for companies like Sony, Disney, Amazon, XBOX, NBCUniversal, going to Cannes, attending gaming conferences like E3 in Los Angeles, attending awards events or sports events like the British F1 GP, NFL, NBA and Champions League matches in executive boxes for business meetings.
I will continue to use these pillars and the others I have written about in my book, to write and create new and exciting paths, chapters and experiences for my future.
The next one is already close to beginning and I can't wait. What pillars will create and use from your past to create your path?
