Procrastination | Sarah Dawkins

Writer: Bespoke DiariesBespoke Diaries

I had been looking into becoming a health and wellness coach for a few years but had not done anything about it due to a severe case of procrastination and a busy life.

The dictionary states procrastination is the action of delaying or postponing something.

Believe me, there was no action with my procrastination, it was all about in-action or lack of action to do something.  I put it off, thinking it was too time consuming and I didn’t have the time as I am self employed.

Being self employed means that taking time out of work to undertake any course or learning causes me a financial loss.  This is a trap that many self employed people find themselves in.  No work – no pay!

It is easy to see how self employed people can procrastinate about making changes that will have financial implications.  However, in looking at the bigger picture, the financial loss in the short term is often worth the sacrifice, for the longer term gains.  Time out from work is not just necessary, it is essential to avoid burn out.

I wanted to become a coach to enable people to help themselves, as coaching is not about the giving of advice.  Giving people advice is easy to do, many people do it all the time, solicited or not….. we all have opinions on what, how, why and when things need to be done and we offer these to people – usually from good intentions.  However, our solutions many not necessarily work for others, even if they work for us.

We all know what makes us who we are and we all have the solutions to our problems inside ourselves.  It is just a case of finding them.  A coach will help you to do that.

This led me on a journey to find how I was going to realise my future, as coaching will be at the core of my new business Celtic Sanctuary.

I made the time and booked myself onto a coaching course which I have just passed and been accredited as a coach.  WOW, I’m feeling great and here’s to my new beginnings.

Procrastination has the ability to kill your future and dreams, if you allow it.

Take a leap of faith, follow your passion and dreams.

You will never know how great it could be until you start taking action to make changes.

If it doesn’t work out, then it was maybe not for you but look at the experience you have gained from it.  As one door closes, another one is opening somewhere.  Go and look for it, the opportunity is waiting for you.
