I couldn't contain my excitement when I completed secondary school. I had high hopes and anticipated a world of opportunities waiting for me. However, reality hit me hard. My parents couldn't afford to send me to university like my friends. While they pursued their dream programs, I felt left behind, unsure of what my future held. The frustration and despair overwhelmed me.
During this challenging time, a friend of mine who was involved in network marketing reached out to me. He saw potential in me and invited me to join his business. I decided to give it a shot, hoping for a glimmer of hope amidst the uncertainty. The beginning was tough; I struggled to grasp the intricacies of the business. But as time went on, I started to understand the industry and found my footing. I met new people and discovered my own abilities.
In the course of doing business, I met a remarkable man who became my mentor. His brilliance fascinated me every time he spoke. He recommended a book that would change my life forever: "Think Big." This book opened my eyes to the fact that my background didn't have the power to determine my future; it was up to me to define my own path. It sparked a hunger for knowledge and personal growth within me.
I delved into a world of books, exploring various genres like business, personal development, leadership, and spiritual growth. With each book, my perspective expanded, and I realized I wasn't alone in my situation. Many young people faced similar challenges, unable to access education and opportunities. The impact books had on me ignited an idea within me—to share the power of reading and inspire others.
But there was a problem: the reading culture among young people was abysmal. I pondered on how to address this issue and that's when the concept of The Hot Platform magazine was born. I envisioned a magazine that would inspire and educate young individuals, empowering them to become agents of change. It wasn't an easy journey, but fueled by determination, I forged ahead.
The magazine was just the beginning. We expanded our services to include graphic design, content creation, and digital marketing, aiming to tackle more significant challenges such as the lack of networks and career opportunities for young people. We refined our model, recognizing the importance of understanding the problems people faced and adapting our approach accordingly.
As the vision grew, so did the team. It started with a small group from Zambia and expanded internationally, with individuals joining from India, Pakistan, Europe, and other African countries. The project became something much bigger than I had ever anticipated. I realized that to lead this endeavor successfully, I needed to acquire more skills.
I immersed myself in online professional programs, dedicated to honing my abilities. I explored digital marketing, human resources, project management, strategic leadership, and more. These skills became invaluable assets on my entrepreneurial journey, equipping me to navigate the challenges ahead.
My journey wasn't without obstacles. Lack of resources, discouragement, and rejection tested my resolve. People came and went, but one thing remained constant—I refused to give up. Failure was inevitable, but I saw it as an opportunity to reflect, learn, and grow. I embraced rejection, understanding that it simply meant that particular path wasn't meant for me. I kept trying until I found the right team, the right support.
Through perseverance and the support of a few believers, our vision began to attract attention, even from influential figures. I found myself crossing paths with Zev Siegle, the co-founder of Starbucks, and other investors who saw the potential in what we were building. The momentum was building, and as I pen this story, we are on the verge of launching our Minimum Viable Product (MVP).
This journey has taught me invaluable lessons. I've learned to believe in myself, even when others doubted me. Failure has become a stepping stone for growth, and continuous learning is a key to success. Rejections have shown me the importance of perseverance and the significance of building a strong network of support.
I haven't reached the finish line yet, but I'm getting closer. I may not know the challenges you're facing or the dreams you're pursuing, but I can assure you that if you believe in yourself and pursue your aspirations relentlessly, you will achieve them. Success doesn't come easily, but it comes to those who refuse to give up.
Everyone who has made it has a story to tell. What will be your story? Embrace the journey, face the challenges head-on, and create a tale that will inspire others. The world is waiting for your impact.
