Unseen Battles: A Personal Story of Resilience and Mental Health Awareness | Anju K

Writer: Bespoke DiariesBespoke Diaries

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to bring attention to the often unseen battles many people face. It’s a reminder that someone can go through so much in silence, hiding their pain behind a smile. You never know who is suffering until they break down.

I have lived this reality for more than a decade, grappling with severe anxiety, depression, and complex PTSD. These challenges have become a part of my daily life. Some days, I feel like I’m drowning, overwhelmed by my mental health issues. On other days, I manage to float, finding brief moments of peace. No matter how difficult it gets, I never stop fighting to come to the surface.

As a survivor of domestic violence and sexual assault, I have learned to fight in many ways. I’ve battled in courtrooms to reclaim my safety and rights, and I’ve faced ongoing struggles with my mental health. Each day is a new challenge, but it’s also a testament to my resilience and determination.

During Mental Health Awareness Month, I encourage everyone to be mindful of the hidden struggles others might be facing. Offer compassion and support, and remember that sometimes, the strongest among us are those who seem to be smiling the brightest.
